I suffered a subarachnoid haemorrhage on 20th October 2005 while at a keep fit class. As I lifted the weight lifting bar above my head I felt a woosh of heat going up through my head. Started to feel slightly dizzy and unwell so decided to go and sit down in the reception area. Things just got worse from then on. Felt sick, difficulty breathing and a slow swirling headache. Don't remember the ambulance arriving, which took me to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness. Was sick a number of times in the ambulance. After an overnight stay in Inverness I had an MRI scan which confirmed the haemorrhage. I was then transferred to the ARI Aberdeen to ward 40. A few days later I had an angiogram...not that bad an experience really although I believe it can be risky. And a week after having the haemorrhage I had the aneurysm clipped and 20 stitches. First operation and first time I had stitches. I was really well looked after and in high dependency ward for 4 days after the operation. I felt that I was sent home a bit early. Could hardly walk but all has been okay. I just worry and think about it every day though and hope and pray that it doesn't happen again. To all of you out there who have had a similar experience, be strong and safe.
Karen has recorded an album as a fund raiser for neurosurgery in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary as a token of thanks for the excellent care and treatment. If anyone is interested, send me an email. Karen@KarenSteven.com
